Our evening time trial takes runners on a fast, flat route along the Sea Point Promenade and runners have a choice of either 5km or 8km. It’s open to all and runners of all abilities are encouraged to come and take part.

In its 20th year, the event is organised by the Hewat Athletics Club. It starts & finishes on the Sea Point Promenade & offers four distance options over two days, where runners can enjoy the scenic vistas of mountain and ocean. Endorsed by the Two Oceans Marathon NPC, organisers of the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon, the Ultra is a Two Oceans Marathon qualifier but NOT a Comrades qualifier.
This exciting race, the Steam Train Challenge, is built on the tried and tested concept of man vs machine, but is unique as it involves running and mountain biking. Both sports are amongst the fastest-growing in South Africa.
The race will take participants over a distance of approximately 90km’s, through the picturesque scenery between the towns of Wellington and Ceres.
There are two participation options:
Leg 1: Wellington to Malan Station (Run 1 = approx. 7.2km)
Leg 2: Malan Station to Hermon Station (Cycle 1 = approx. 22.2km)
Leg 3: Hermon Station to Gouda Station (Cycle 2 = approx. 19.2km)
Leg 4: Gouda Station to Tulbagh Road Station (Run 2 = approx. 7.7km)
Leg 5: Tulbagh Road Station to Waverley Hills Farm (Cycle 3 = approx. 23.7km)
Leg 6: Waverley Hills Farm to Ceres Golf Club (Run 3 = approx. 10.9km)
